The increased competition in the IT-business
demands new thinking. That is why the Danish IT- firm KRING
Technologies A/S racked their brains, and during only 12 months
it was possible to establish an offshore-setup in India. There
is however not only talk about usual outsourcing. KRING has
been able to create its own Indian development department equal
to the one here in Denmark. In that way KRING introduces a totally
new concept, which secures customer names e.g. Select Sport
A/S, Danish quality at Indian prices.
KRING has chosen to approach the IT-area from a whole new angle.
During last year the firm has been able to create a carbon copy
of their own development department. The only difference is
that it is placed in Gurgaon, 30 km south of New Delhi. The
development of software applications, internet and database
solutions take place in India, while the project management
is done in Denmark.
- In India we solve all forms of development tasks, from
complex databases for tailored systems, websites, intranet,
financial systems etc. Typically 70% of the development takes
place in India while 30% is developed in our Danish department,
says Jesper Kring. He established KRING with his brother Martin
KRING three years ago.
Huge gains from Indian setup
Unlike the competitors KRING has been able to establish an offshore-setup
in India which completely matches the company in Denmark. KRING’s
50 Indian employees work with the exact same methodology, code
standards, and project management principles as in Denmark,
and at the same time there is always Danish presence. Thus,
there is talk about a 100% identical standard and especially
a quick and easy communication.
- We are not only dealing with the usual form of outsourcing.
We do not let the job out of our sight but always an overview
of, and total control with the course of the project. Thus,
we can make sure that the job is done on time; along with
that the quality is identical to the work we normally carry
out in Denmark. In fact the customer do not notice if the
project is solved by Danish or Indian developers but on the
other hand the savings are noticeable. At the same time the
customer avoids all the difficulties involved in developing
on their own in India, e.g. the language and cultural barriers,
says Jesper Kring.
Offshore-development, a strong parameter of competition
In spite of the fact that offshore-development only now seriously
breaks through in the IT-business, there is, however, not talk
about a new phenomenon. In the textile industry offshore has
been used for many years which exceedingly also is the reason
that the textile industry has been able to blossom to such an
extent. Morten Kjeldgaard, partner of Netplan, has no doubts
that this development strategy can be extremely attractive for
a line of IT-companies. In that connection he says:
- There is no doubt that you can obtain huge savings when
getting the development work done in India. However, it demands
project management competence to make the information flow
freely in a big project that is solved both in Denmark and
India. If the project management is working it means lower
costs, and higher scalability degree in the project. Companies
which are able to deliver this stand much stronger in the
competition
Indian setup on trial
KRING’s India setup was seriously on trial when the Danish
sports equipment company, Select Sport A/S had an advanced website
fully developed before Christmas sales. In only 14 days KRING
was able to solve the task. and this exact setup in India made
them capable of doing the assignment this fast.
- We chose KRING for several reasons. Firstly, they took
our enquiry very serious and quickly reacted with an offer.
However, an important fact was that KRING’s Indian setup,
opposed to the other suppliers on the market, made it possible
for KRING to buy extra time in India and at the same time
deliver at a reasonable price, says Peter Knap, managing director
in Select Sport A/S. He continues:
- KRING lived fully up to our expectations about flexibility
and quality. Do you ask me today, which part of the site was
developed in Denmark and India; I do not know. and exactly
that proves that the setup works as intended.
